September 5 - start canopy base color. |
Continue with base colors working light to
dark. Larger pieces of frisket are worked first. |
The next step is to spray in the shadow area,
then render reflective surfaces.. |
Windows are roughed in. At this point I need
to know the exact color that the windows will be reflecting. I'll wait and use colors from
the terrain. |
Beginning the rear stabilator and
undercarrige. Overspray on the frisket surrounding the Apache gives a halo effect. |
After spraying the dark colors onto the
wheels, I remove the frisket in preparation for the background elements. Note that
the Apache is not detailed.I will wait until the background is in before makeing final
color adjustments that might other wise obliterate any detail I choose to add at
this point. |
At this point, the helicopter is frisketed off
to protect it from the overspray while the background commences. Starting with the blue of
the sky and working forward, the most distant objects are painted first. |
I continue with base colors working light to dark.
I had to avoid the temptation here to scuff and mar the suface to gain texture in the rock
because it would leave sharp edges. Free hand airbrush is used exclusively at this point
because I want a slightly softened background to help give the illusion of distance. |
